“Any colour, as long as it’s black.” Henry Ford
Pantone and Dulux both came out with great colours at the beginning of this year which were ‘their colour of the year’.
In this blog I will give you the background to each company and the colours then a guide on how to incorporate the look into your home.
Pantone – ‘Greenery’
Pantone’s Greenery ’15-0343′ is 2017’s Colour of the Year!
It is so bright, vibrant and alive – you can’t help but miss it, you fall in love with it and want to have something in your home that is that colour.
Pantone’s headquarters is located in New Jersey, USA and according to their Twitter page @pantone – they say they are the “global authority on colour, which inspires artist, designers and stylists to colour the world.”
Pantone say that “Greenery is a refreshing and revitalising shade and is symbolic of new beginnings.” You can definitely agree with them on this because all new shoots on plants are this shade and therefore it does symbolise new beginnings.
They also explain ‘Colour of the Year’ – they write on their website that it is a “colour snapshot of what we see taking place in our global culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude.”
Below is a quote from the Pantone Colour Institute, Executive Director:
Dulux – ‘Denim Drift’
Dulux’s, Denim Drift is their Colour of the Year 2017!
It is very different to Pantone’s colour of 2017 – Denim Drift is exactly what it says on the tin, it is a greyish blue and a heavy colour.
This is what Dulux say regarding their new colour – “Denim Drift is the must-have colour of 2017. It is truly adaptable, fitting into all life and interior styles, making it the perfect choice for reflecting our new perspective for 2017.”
As well as Pantone, Dulux have a Global Aesthetics Centre, their Creative Director has said this about Denim Drift – “ Our review of international architecture, fashion and design trends revealed that blue is the colour of the moment. To make it relevant for your home, the team chose a blue that works as well in a kitchen as it does in a bedroom. Denim Drift, is the must-have colour for 2017. It will look great on your wall! ”

How to include the colours in your home
Pantone – Greenery
Whether you want to go all out and paint the whole damn house in this colour or just want hints of it here and there, I can help you.
With Greenery, it is such a bright in your face colour and to make the most of it with paining I’d use it as a feature wall and not paint all four of them – you might look like your living in a very bright shoebox…. You could match the curtains / blind to it with a few cushions if you want to go all out.
If you don’t want to look like the paint pot has exploded in the room – hints of it will look lovely too. Cushions or a throw with a matching coffee table or side table in a white room or neutral will look beautiful. This will make the colour stand out even more than it does and be a real conversation starter.
Dulux – Denim Drift
Fancy this colour in your living room, hallway or dining room?? I would be careful painting the whole room in this colour, make sure that your room is big enough for this colour, as it is on the dark side (no pun intended) – when it’s not sunny you have to think that this might be too dull for you. A room with plenty of windows and outside light, pair it with silver and white or maybe another shade of blue or some accessories that are grey.
If you don’t want to paint the whole room, maybe a lighter shade of this on the wall and add this a ‘Denim Drift’ coloured rug to the room with matching cushions. That will be really nice, if you like the idea of silver with this colour or white add tassels to curtains or cushions, nice additions like this will make your room look complete.
Using this colour for your bathroom, will make it stand out completely. Purchase some Denim Drift colour tiles and then you can make bold changes to the room.
I hope this blog has given you inspiration to update your home with either of this years ‘Colour of the Year’ or maybe both of them…..
Don’t forget I’ve created Pinterest boards for both of these colours in your home, why don’t you take a look at my page to gather some inspiration.
